Point 1: Do not let Pogba abuse the referee's mother in any case. Referee might have mood swings.
Before i get into the review: Atletico Madrid, you have won my heart. That was one of the finest 10 men performance i have seen, you have my respect!
The stage was set, and Atletico Madrid visited Barcelona at the Camp Nou in a final effort to make their Liga dream come true. Barcelona had to juggle, knowing that Manchester United was just 3 days away.
No surprises at all, full strength XI. Vidal was suspended, Malcom didn't get a start as Coutinho was put faith in again.
For Athleti, Morata was on the bench. Otherwise, a full strength XI
    First half
The first 28 minutes and it looked like we had a serious game of football. Atletico were putting up one of the strongest and highest presses i have seen, winning the ball back from Barcelona continuously. Though the League leaders had a great chances via Alba and Coutinho, it was Atletico Madrid that looked the more likely to score, with long spells of possession.
All until one moment of brainfade and Costa couldn't control his hormones. Insulted the Referee, and got himself sent off. I have read a few theories of what he said, but though the rules allow the ref to do what he did, i feel it was unnecessary to give a straight red whatever Costa might have said
Then the game gets into a typical 10 v 11, thrill drained out, boring 15 minutes. Barcelona trying to break through, Atleti more then happy to keep them to the stalemate.
    Second half
The first spell of the second half was the same as the last spell of the first. The pairing of Gimenez and Godin was unbreakable. Barcelona went on tiring the 10 men they were up against, and Atletico were more than happy to sit back and defend. Athletico did create some great chances from set pieces too.
All until Chulo sent it Morata for Felipe, pushing their creative midfielder Saul Niguez back into the LB role. A subsequent move by Valverde to remove Arthur for Malcom was a game changer, although I felt Malcom should have been introduced on the left wing rather than right.
Malcom brought pace that caught the defense tired on a few occasions, and this made Barcelona more dangerous. Messi slowly got more involved and Barcelona were all our attack. But Oblak was a monster in goal, add had an answer to each one of Barca's attacks
It ultimately needed a magical strike from Suarez that curled past a full streach Oblak to give us the lead. Less than a minute later, the fatigued and demotivated Atleti defense was caught napping again as Gimenez player Messi onside, and Messi dribbled past the defense, rotated in the D and sent Oblak the wrong way.
    Talking points:
    1. Coutinho had a good day at the office, made efforts to get the ball, linked up with others well, age contributed to defense too. The only downside was his pace, which is a liability.
    2. Messi had a silent 70 minutes for his standards(it might have been intentional keeping ManU in mind), well marked by Simeone and was shackled in a box of defenders. But the last 20 minutes is when he switched on, and the effect could be seen.
    3. I don't understand Suarez. For 85 minutes, he looked a shadow of himself. Yes, he did make efforts on goal, but was disposessed far too much. But at the end, what a strike to get that goal!
    4. Arthur has faced mild criticism for being off colour recently, and he put up a great performance to shut his critics. 100% tackles won, 100% accurate long balls, and 61(94%) accurate passes. Brilliant performance
    5. Busquets looked slightly off color, but still dished out a reasonable game. He gave away the ball cheaply at times, but still finished with 80 accurate passes, 8 duels won and 7 accurate long balls
    6. Rakitic was a vital part of yesterday's game, and played a far more Advanced role than usual, very similar to what he did in the Clasico. Actively involved in attack, had a couple of shots on target too.
    7. Atletico defended bravely and almost salvaged a draw. If Costa want sent off, i wonder if the result would still be Barcelona's way, because Athleti looked far more dangerous when they had 11
    8. Substituting Morata for Felipe proved to be costly, as Saul had to drop to LB. There on, Barca win the midfield battle and made themselves home. Though it gave Simeone's men an additional CF, they weren't able to thread the ball effectively
Simeone's record of never beating Barcelona continues. So does the record of none of Atleti's front 3 scoring at the Camp Nou
But speaking of records, Messi goes ahead of Casillas with the most number of La Liga wins now, as we now look ahead to increase the number of wins in the UCL!
